To add an effect, you will want to select the icon from the left-hand side panel that says, "Open Transitions, Effects, Animations".
From here, select the "effects" tab. You can now apply any of the effects by dragging the effect onto your clip.
To adjust the effect's properties, click on the effect icon and begin to adjust within the properties panel.
